🇪🇺 The EU is preparing sanctions against China for supplying drone components and supporting Russia’s war, Politico reported, citing a European diplomat. The sanctions package was initiated following a July Reuters investigation revealing that Chinese drone engines—disguised as "industrial refrigeration units"—were secretly shipped to Russia via front companies, bypassing Western restrictions.
🇦🇹 The U.S. Department of Commerce has fined the American subsidiary of Austrian company Andritz $1.58 million for exporting to Russia without a license. Between May 2023 and February 2024, the company made 36 shipments of refiner plates through a German intermediary without obtaining authorization from the Bureau of Industry and Security, despite the dual-use nature of the products. The fine was reduced as part of a settlement agreement after the company voluntarily disclosed the violations.
🇩🇪 German company Spinner is suspected of supplying over 20 high-precision machines worth €5.5 million to Russia in circumvention of sanctions. An investigation by Arte TV channel suggests the equipment was resold to a Russian defense enterprise through third countries, sometimes using falsified documents. These machines can be used in both automotive manufacturing and the defense industry—specifically for producing weapons and ammunition.
🇮🇳 India is reducing its purchases of Russian oil under U.S. pressure and shifting to supplies from the U.S. and the UAE. According to Bloomberg, the state-owned Indian Oil has already purchased at least 7 million barrels from these countries.
🇻🇳 Russia has exported a batch of oil to Vietnam for the first time, Reuters reports. The shipment comes as Moscow seeks to expand its oil export markets amid Western sanctions.
